If I remember right, when Aban Kitchen first opened, they didn’t have many vegetarian options, so we never got a chance to try it back then. We were pleasantly surprised to see that they now have a separate vegetarian section on the menu. We went later in the evening, so it wasn’t very busy, and the staff were very friendly. We tried the Shakshuka, Falafel Plate, and their tea and everything was delicious! It’s a great spot for vegetarians in Carbondale.

A gem! If you are within two hours and not even hungry, make a detour and stop here for food. You won't be disappointed Authentic yummy food. Everything we had here were top notch, really tasty, authentic spices. The slow cooked roast lab is really good, one of the best I have ever had, tying with the roast lamb at stephos in Vancouver, BC. The karak team is perfectly sweet and spicy. The baklava is just full of flavor, the flavors keep bursting in your mouth. The restaurant looks popular with the locals, gets busy quick during dinner time. Friendly staff!

This is without a doubt one of the best restaurants in southern Illinois! The food is always delicious and the portions are very generous. I’m hoping for a buyer to step in to continue the restaurant’s legacy, but if not, Aban’s Kitchen will be greatly missed. Make sure to stop in and try some amazing food before the end of the year!

This restaurant is a golden treasure in tasty paradise. I’ve been here twice on a Friday evening with my son (who said that Aban’s Kitchen is his favorite restaurant in Southern Illinois). The Chicken Molgulgul is my very favorite dish to order. The food is delicious and seasoned just right. Not too spicy, woo hoo! Any diner MUST try the clay oven baked Naan bread, it is to die for. Their staff treat all the diners with respect and kindness.

The other reviews are right, this place is great. The host was really excited to tell us about all the different dishes, which is always a good sign. We got the lamb kabsah, falafel entree, baba ghanoush with oven bread and chai karak. The lamb was incredible, the meat was tender and the rice was perfectly seasoned. The oven baked bread was gigantic and fragrant and chewy. The chai was warm and full of spices. The falafel was fresh and crunchy. We live in Chicago but this restaurant beats the portions and quality of many of the restaurants back there.

This place is amazing!! The best Chai I’ve ever had; and the lamb is SO GOOD and the clay oven bread is a must! The staff is also very friendly and kind! Also, make sure you sit in the side room where you can sit on the floor with cushions, the only way to experience this place!
